Jensen Healey Bilstein Shocks
Installing the Jensen Healey/Bilstein Shock kit is very straightforward, but a few tips might help.
- Depending on your lift equipment, install one shock at a time, or front and rear separately. It is important that you get the car high enough off the ground to fully extend the suspension, otherwise the shocks will be hard to install.
- Remove the wheel and tire, and support the vehicke on jack stands.
- Since these are gas shocks, they will be fully extended when you remove them from the box. In other words, the shocks will be longer than the distance between the mounting points on the car. The shocks need to be compressed a little to be installed. This is a little awkward to do when fitting the shocks. A 1” ratchet strap can be useful to compress the shocks.
- Some installers find that the upper front shock mount will not fit between the two metal flanges that secure it. This is due to the distortion of the flanges when earlier shocks, with too narrow mounting bushings, were installed, bending the flanges inward. You can try bending the flanges out if you have appropriate tools, or alternatively you can grind a little off each end of the new shock metal bushings with a bench grinder.
